I spent most of my childhood in Kalimpong. After finishing high school, I went to Kolkata, where I got my bachelor’s degree in history. Soon after graduation, I came to Nepal and started a teaching career. I taught English for 25 years before I established Maiti Nepal. I founded the organization in 1993 because I wanted to do something about the problem of women and girls. There were a lot of people and organizations that talked about the problem, but very few were actually willing to help the victims of trafficking.
