Three Nepalese women rescued from Silchar

Silchar, March 22.

Three Nepali women, including a minor girl, were rescued from the red-light district in Silchar town of Cachar district on Monday night in a joint effort by social organisations from Silchar and Nepal. They were victims of a sex-trafficking ring that had lured them from their homes in Nepal to various cities in India, including Delhi and Agra, before bringing them to Silchar. A 62-year-old woman was also rescued in the same operation. Santosh Sedhai and Sunita Karki, representing Maiti Nepal, a social organisation, helped in rescuing the women from Silchar. Sedhai said many women were forced into sex work due to financial hardship and the traffickers had taken advantage of their vulnerable situation.
